Protecting your intellectual property assets is becoming increasingly more important in this global economy, especially for small- to medium-sized businesses that may not be aware of the risks. We always recommend that our clients seek legal counsel when determining what aspects of their corporate identity should be trademarked, such as their company name, logo, tagline, and imagery. Another great resource is the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), which has an extensive website at www.uspto.gov. The USPTO also hosts a site that is dedicated to small businesses and includes information on whether and when to file for intellectual property protection, what type of protection to file for, where to file, and how to go about it at www.uspto.gov/smallbusiness/. |

BER inc piloted a line of personalized children’s books in 2006, with results that far exceeded our expectations. The products aim to make kids feel special, valuable, capable, and important by instilling confidence, inspiring creativity, and fostering a healthy sense of self. Alex Lopes (on cover) participated in the pilot program for our make your own book concept. This product targets kids ages seven to ten and guides them through the process of writing, illustrating, binding, and copyrighting their own books. Alex is already working on her third book and has plans to publish two Christmas stories. Titles include “The Butterfly Rainbow”, “The Fairy Without a Wand”, and “If the World Was Made Out of Candy”. | |
